“During our holiday in Sicily, we wanted to get to know Mammarancia, because we really like blood oranges in winter and we were also curious to know how organic cultivation works. After making an appointment, we were welcomed with open arms. It was very interesting. We have seen several cultivation/planting fields in which the trees are of different ages: very large and beautiful orange trees with a rounded habit, growing in rows with adequate spacing between them, developing juicy green lemons in June, but also small and medium-sized orange trees that have just grown. The first oranges were already hanging on the tree again. In another field, smaller branches were pruned at specific points so that the tree’s vigour could better reach the fruit (as in grape cultivation). One of the great enemies of oranges, ants, is combated mechanically by preventing them from marching to the tree tops with adhesive tape. Against an even more dangerous enemy, a bacterium, one can only cut down the plantation after the infestation and replace it with another orange variety. It is a very careful, well-kept and labour-intensive farm for the production of your excellent organic oranges! At the end we enjoyed a snack together with the people of Mammarancia in a rural atmosphere with several of your products.
Many thanks to the Mammarancia team and especially to Graziella and Carlo 🙂“
